Colonel Claghound appeared in the Dog City episode "Much Ado About Mad Dog". A hearty businessman with a Texan accent, the Colonel works on a business deal with Terri Springer, which is soured after he lends his Civil War cowboy hat to Artie Springer.

The Colonel is recycled from Lyle the Dog, a longtime background Muppet, and the puppet would appear again in the episode "No Pain, No Brain" as Labrio.

Claghound's name, loud voice, and "I say" mannerism are references to old-time radio character Senator Claghorn on The Fred Allen Show.
