Description
SCENE 1Big Bird wakes up in the early morning and greets the viewer. He walks out into the street, observing how nobody else has gotten up yet, but then notices smoke coming from Hooper's Store. He assumes Mr. Hooper must be cooking something, but then sees Mr. Hooper isn't there. He notices smoke is coming from the basement as well, and realizes there must be a fire. He calls out for help, then Gordon quickly phones the fire department, while Bob evacuates from his apartment above. Big Bird then attempts to blow the smoke away, as Susan goes to call Mr. Hooper. The firemen arrive and bust down the door, causing Big Bird to panic and think they're breaking in. As the men go to extinguish the fire, the adults explain the process to Big Bird.

The firemen dump out some old junk from the basement, which is what caught fire. They explain to Big Bird that Mr. Hooper should've thrown it out beforehand, then they make their way off. A devastated Mr. Hooper arrives and surveys the damage, but his friends calm him down and assure him everything's fine. He catches up to the firemen (in a scene taped on location) and thanks the lieutenant for his work. He promises they can have anything they want from the store free of charge, but the lieutenant just asks that he throw out his trash regularly to prevent any future fires; Mr. Hooper sheepishly apologizes to him.
