SCENE 1 On his way out of 123 Sesame Street, Gordon passes by Oscar's trash can and overhears Oscar practicing a marriage proposal to himself for Grundgetta. He's also prepared some anchovy-skunk candles, fresh stinkweed, and has Fluffy trumpet a romantic (and dissonant) serenade to help set the mood, clarifying to "Mr. Snoop" that he doesn't really want to marry Grundgetta - he just wants to hear her say "no" in response. He's certain she will, as he's pulled this similar scheme frequently. When Grundgetta arrives, Oscar pops the question; to his surprise, she responds with a "Yes!" She laughs at the trick she's pulled on him, but now the pair realize that this means... they have to get married!

SCENE 2 The Grouches are still upset about getting married when Gordon and Maria explain it's not as simple as that - marriage is a big decision that takes time. Just then, the "world's most perfect Grouch" Martha Sewer arrives, having heard the news and offers to plan their wedding. Having written Martha Sewer's Book of Perfectly Rotten Weddings ("It's a Grouch thing."), she shows them a picture from one of her weddings on the cover. Oscar and Grundgetta greatly admire the cake covered with fish and the bride and groom dressed in trash, finding it's a good excuse to throw a Grouch party. They decide to go ahead with it and Martha schedules the wedding for today, with plans already springing into action as a random Grouch guest (Jerry Nelson) arrives for the ceremony.

SCENE 3 The Grouch guest returns after having been shooed out before as Oscar and Grundgetta argue over what yucky things to decorate their invitations with. Grundgetta prefers the tomato sauce, while Oscar likes the ones with chocolate sauce. Martha suggests they stop arguing ("There'll be plenty of time for that on the honeymoon.") and cooperate, showing that they can combine their preferred sauces (with a hint of slime for accent). She also hands out some trashy formal outfits for Maria and Gordon, who have been chosen as the matron of honor and best man respectively.
