COLD OPEN While Biff rummages through his toolbag, Elmo greets the viewer and says that today is all about tools. Biff displays some common tools, such as a hammer and screwdriver, but they aren't what he's looking for. Sully arrives with the perfect tool for Biff -- his toothbrush, so he can brush his teeth after lunch.

SCENE 1 cont'd Super Grover plans to fly up and retrieve the stuck plane, but his visor falls over his eyes obscuring his vision, and he struggles to raise the visor so he can see. Charlie and Elmo attempt to reach the plane, but both are too short. Observing from Hooper's, Chris tells them they need a tool to retrieve the toy. He defines a tool as any object you use to help you complete a task, such as a hammer, a saw or even a pair of scissors.

SCENE 1 cont'd Using the "I wonder, what if, let's try" mantra, Charlie suggests using her baton as a tool to knock the plane down, which works! Super Grover reappears, having unstuck his visor, and believes that he somehow managed to retrieve the toy. Elmo and Charlie explain how she used her baton as a tool to accomplish the job.

SCENE 1 cont'd Charlie and Super Grover are summoned by an "Oh, no!" cry, and they find Abby and Rosita trying to retrieve their ball, which has rolled under the stairs and is now unreachable. Super Grover can't reach it either, so Charlie tries using her baton again. Unfortunately, the baton only pushes the ball further under the stairs. Again invoking "I wonder, what if, let's try," Charlie realizes they need to put something on the end of the baton so that it will stick to the ball. Abby provides a roll of garden tape that Charlie uses for that purpose, and she easily extracts the ball from the stairs.

SCENE 1 cont'd Bert and Ernie are washing their clothes at the Laundromat when Ernie finds Bert's one-of-a-kind Tip Top Pop bottle cap, which he promptly loses under a dryer. Super Grover tries to lift the dryer, to no avail, and then he gets the idea to call on Charlie and her baton for help. Charlie's first attempt only succeeds in pushing the bottle cap back further, so she relies on "I wonder, what if, let's try" once more and modifies the baton with a detergent scoop so she can catch the bottle cap. Super Grover offers Charlie a spot as his sidekick, "The Cool Tool Kid." The pair head "Away!!!" to find more people to help.
