SCENE 1 | Chris shows Elmo, Rosita, and Rudy a picture book about the ocean. He shows them a page about submarines and teaches them about the different parts (windows, propeller, periscope, and rudder), which inspires the kids to make their own pretend submarine. They wonder what to make it out of and ultimately decide to make it out of cardboard, after Elmo recalls making a plane, a bus, a spaceship, and a train all out of cardboard. |

SCENE 1 cont'd | Chris gets some cardboard boxes and the kids wonder which box they should use for their submarine. Rudy thinks he's found the perfect box, but Elmo and Rosita point out that it only fits Rudy. Rosita then has the idea to use a large wooden crate for the sub, but Rudy worries the crate is not big enough. To test, the three stand next to the crate and identify that they'd all fit. Now there's only one problem: they're not strong enough to move it and are therefore not able to use it for their submarine. |

SCENE 1 cont'd | They instead decide to use a large cardboard box. They once again test to see if they'll all fit, but only Elmo and Rosita do. One "I Wonder, What If, Let's Try" later, they decide to combine the box and a smaller box into one bigger submarine. They test if the two boxes are enough to fit the three of them, and they are, so they decide to tape them together. Once the taping is done, the three use the picture book to turn the cardboard boxes into a sub, with the windows, propeller, and rudder (or "sticky-outy part" as Rudy calls it). |
