COLD OPEN Elmo tries to set up today's theme of dogs with an uncooperative doggy.
(First: Episode 5206)

SCENE 1 Elmo is playing fetch with Tango, but she instead retrieves a dirty old shoe, and starts chewing up on it. That dirty old shoe happens to belong to Oscar. He retrieves it and finds it's covered in yucky dog slobber... which means he loves it.

SCENE 1 cont'd Julia, Sam, and Elena show up with Julia's pet dog, Rose. When Sam asks Elmo what he's doing, Elmo tells him he's playing fetch with Tango. Sam asks where's the ball, and Elmo tells him Tango's still learning the fetching part. Elena is reminded of when Julia taught Rose how to fetch. Sam tells Elmo that training Rose is one of Julia's jobs in the family. Julia lists "food, water, and love," which Elmo also gives to Tango. Sam also explains how Julia helps Rose exercise by teaching her fun tricks. Sam tells Elmo they were on their way home from Rose's doggy school. Elmo laughs at this, and finds doggy school to be the funniest thing ever, thinking there's circle time or snack time, or even story time. Julia tells Elmo it's not doggy preschool, and Sam follows up that dog school is a place where people teach dogs new skills and tricks. Elena is reminded that she needs to buy more dog food at Hooper's Store, and asks Julia and Sam to stay with Rose.

SCENE 1 cont'd As Julia and Sam play with Rose for a little bit, Sam offers to show Elmo how Julia has been training Rose to stay in a fun way. Elmo and Tango would both love that. Julia takes a deep breath towards Rose, and shakes out that excited energy so she can be calm when training Rose. After both Julia and Rose are calm, Julia wants to play hide and seek. Elmo says he'd love to play hide and seek, but thought Julia was going to show Elmo a dog trick. Sam laughs and tells Elmo hide and seek is the trick, much to Elmo's astonishment. Sam explains that hide and seek has three parts: sit, stay, and find. Julia gets Rose to sit, as she gives Rose the treat. She tells Rose to stay, and afterwards, starts counting.

SCENE 1 cont'd Julia hides behind a blue bin, and calls out "find me" to Rose. Rose finds Julia, and Julia gives Rose another treat. Elmo loved seeing that, and wants to teach hide and seek to Tango. He tells Tango to stay as Elmo is going to find a place to hide, and as Elmo leaves, Tango starts chasing. Elmo searches for a hiding spot, and starts with Oscar's trash can. He knocks on Oscar's can asking if he can hide there, but after Oscar pops out, Elmo coughs and finds it too stinky. Oscar sniffs, and says it's just the right amount of stinky.

SCENE 1 cont'd Elmo continues looking, and finds the perfect hiding spot: under a table at Hooper's Store. Tango searches for Elmo as she sniffs Oscar's can, and coughs. As Elmo starts counting, Tango finds him and tells Tango that's not how hide and seek works. She needs to sit and stay until Elmo counts to 10 and says "find Elmo!" Elmo wonders why Tango didn't do the trick like Rose. Sam explains Elmo never taught her. Julia tells Elmo the first step: sit.

SCENE 1 cont'd Elmo tells Tango to sit, and as she does so, Elmo happily exclaims "Tango's sitting! Tango's sitting!" As Elmo sees Tango is jumping and laughing a lot, Sam points out Elmo is doing the same thing, and Julia notices Elmo's big smile. Elmo's body has so much energy with the feeling of floating like a balloon, and it leads to him singing the "Very Big Feeling" tune. Sam tells Elmo when his body is this happy, it means he's excited. Elmo says that's exactly it, as he's excited to teach Tango hide and seek. Julia observes both Elmo and Tango are excited, and Sam believes Julia is right, as Tango is excited because she sees Elmo is excited. Elmo really wants to teach Tango a new trick, but gets so excited, he can't stop moving.

SCENE 1 cont'd Sam knows what Elmo can do to calm his body, as both Julia and Sam tell Elmo in unison: "wet dog." Elmo is confused by that, and wonders how giving Tango a bath is going to help Elmo. Julia explains it's a wet dog wiggle. Sam tells Elmo the wet dog wiggle is something the family does when they need to shake out the energy so they can focus. Elmo wonders why it's called a wet dog, and Sam asks what Tango does when she's wet. Elmo reflects on this, as he shakes his own body exactly the way Tango does it. Elmo stops and notices how calm he is all of a sudden. Sam tells Elmo it's because he did the wet dog wiggle, which made him shake off that extra excited energy. Julia takes a deep breath, as the others follow. She then does the wet dog, and everyone shakes. Sam instructs everybody to take a slow deep breath together, and do the wet dog wiggle, and tells the viewers to follow along. Sam starts singing a tune about the wet dog wiggle, as everybody shakes their body. Now that Elmo is calm, he's ready to try again. He tells Tango to sit, and this time, Elmo's calm, and gives Tango a treat. He tells Tango to stay, and gives her a treat. He repeats, giving Tango another treat, and then has her stay again, as Elmo starts counting, looking for a hiding spot.

SCENE 1 cont'd Elmo continues counting, as he hides behind some flowers. After he finishes counting, he tells Tango to find Elmo. Tango excitedly looks around, and finds Elmo, as he gives her another treat. Sam and Julia congratulate Elmo, as Elena returns. Sam tells Elena about how Elmo taught Tango a new trick, and Elmo tells her about how both Julia and Sam taught him the wet dog wiggle. Elmo wants to try it again, they all do it again.

Insert Everyone Has Big Feelings
Logan and Ariana are playing T-ball. Ariana is too excited and can't focus, and Logan shows her the wet dog wiggle.

Muppets The Sesame Street friends dance and sing waiting to discover which letter will be the letter of the day. Today, it's D.

Film D is for Dog: A boy and his mom are adopting a dog named Dana from the rescue center.

SCENE 2 After Elmo plays fetch with Tango again, Elmo and Abby start playing the animal guessing game. Elmo is thinking of an animal with four legs. Abby guesses a horse, squirrel, platypus, tiger, and skunk. Elmo gives Abby another hint: it makes for a great pet. Tango returns as Abby's still trying to guess, and finds the answer is a dog. They hear the sounds of the Foodie Truck...

Muppets Cookie Monster's Foodie Truck
A young girl is having an adoption party for her dog and orders vanilla popsicles, a doggy-appropriate treat. Gonger chides Cookie Monster when they find they're out of vanilla beans, until Cookie reminds Gonger that he actually used up all the vanilla to make pudding. Gonger apologizes and they drive off to the vanilla farm for more.
