WRC-TV (channel 4) is the local NBC owned-and-operated station in Washington, D.C.
Following his start in television on WTOP-TV, a young Jim Henson began working on WRC making appearances on such shows as Circle 4 Ranch in 1954 and Afternoon in March 1955. Two months later, Henson got his own show in Sam and Friends, which broadcast twice daily until 1961. WRC also aired Footlight Theater which featured appearances by the Muppets beginning in 1956.
Willard Scott also got his start at WRC, as the host of Afternoon. In Scott's autobiography, The Joy of Living, he recalled working with Sam and Kermit in commercials for Schindler's Peanut Butter. Katie Couric began her career at WRC as well; she went on to interview and appear with the Muppets several times throughout her career.
