Season 10

The tenth season of The Simpsons first aired on August 23, 1998 with its first episode, "Lard of the Dance" and ended May 16, 1999 with its final episode, "Thirty Minutes Over Tokyo". Notably, this is the only season of The Simpsons to premiere in the month of August. The (letter)ABF# production code format continues to be used until Season 34.

The Simpsons Complete Season Ten boxset was released: Like the last four, there were two editions, one with the normal box, and this time, a Bart shaped clamshell boxset. It is also the last time there is a Simpson head box. This is the last season with Phil Hartman, as both Lionel Hutz and Troy McClure, as well as the last season to feature David S. Cohen before he left to work on Futurama. For these reasons and others, season ten is generally considered the transition season marking the end of the show's Golden Era and the beginning of the Middle Simpsons era, and, for most viewers, the point when the show jumped the shark because it was too mired in absurdity, gimmicky premises, vulgar humor, and needless celebrity cameos to be as it was in the early days.

The DVD cover features Bart stretching his bottom lip, one of his famous expressions.
