Season 13

The Simpsons Season 13 first aired on November 6, 2001 with its first episode, "Treehouse of Horror XII" and ended on May 22, 2002 with "Poppa's Got a Brand New Badge" (though the last episode of the season is actually "The Frying Game." "Poppa's Got a Brand New Badge" was added as a bonus episode by FOX).

The Simpsons Complete Season Thirteen boxset was released:

  • Region 1- August 24, 2010
  • Region 2- September 20, 2010
  • Region 4- December 1, 2010

This season includes a documentary titled The Sweet Life of Ralph Wiggum. Some Season 13 DVD box sets featured a limited edition collector's box with a 3D Ralph Wiggum face on the front.

This is the first season since Season 4 to have Al Jean as showrunner.

In production code order, this is the last season animated in traditional cel animation, though the next season would have a handful of leftover episodes animated that way (with "Treehouse of Horror XIII" being the exception).

Trivia[]

  • This is the first season:
    • With Al Jean as showrunner, though most of the holdover episodes are season 12 produced episodes that had Mike Scully as showrunner. Though "Brawl in the Family" is the first produced episode to have Al Jean as showrunner, "She of Little Faith" is credited as the first Al Jean-run episode because it aired first on FOX.
    • Whose production would be affected by a world event (in this case, the September 11th attacks). The second time would be season 19, with the 2007-2008 Writers Guild strike, the third and fourth times would be from the COVID-19 pandemic (even though these seasons had the normal amount of episodes), and the fifth time would be from the 2023 strikes from both the Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA.
    • To have a full televised run in the 21st century.
  • This is one of the three seasons where every episode is normal pitched in other countries, meaning some parts of the UK and France can help the episodes contain the pal-pitch effect.
  • This seasons uses all different opening sequences with the exception of the one from season 6.
