Season 17 of The Simpsons first started on September 11, 2005, with "The Bonfire of the Manatees," and ended on May 21, 2006 with "Marge and Homer Turn a Couple Play." A DVD version was released eight years after the season finale on December 1, 2014. It has Sideshow Bob on the DVD cover.

DVD release[]

The Season 17 DVD set was released for Region 1 on December 2, 2014, and for Region 2 on December 1, 2014. It is the only season to date to be rated 15 in the UK.

The US DVD edition is available in the "molded head" variation of the box to match previous seasons.

The cover features Sideshow Bob.

• It is the last season documented by the Frinkiac website.
• This season has the 365th ("Simpsons Christmas Stories") and 366th ("Homer's Paternity Coot") episodes, meaning that a viewer can watch a Simpsons episode a day for a full year (or a leap year, in the case of "Homer's Paternity Coot") without repeating, provided the viewer doesn't watch any of the Tracy Ullman Show shorts or skip over the now-banned season 3 episode "Stark Raving Dad".
• This is the first season ending in the 7 digit to use the full intro as season 7 was the first to not use it, leaving out the 138th episode spectacular.
• This is also the first 7 digit season to use the intro first introduced in season 3, albeit one episode, as season 7 did not use it for any of its episodes.
• This is one of the seasons where only some episodes are pal-pitched in some other countries.
