That is ture that not everyone is running Linux. However, the current ELF linker is mostly developed and tested on Linux. If you don't run the ELF linker tests natively on Linux, you aren't testing the full ELF linker. I don't think it is a bad idea for people working on ELF to get a cheap x86 box to run Linux/x86 with the current glibc. H.J.
