OK, then maybe this is just broken on Cygwin.  I've never worked on 
Cygwin specifically in the toolchain.  All I know is it works or used to 
work on i386-pc-mingw32.  I don't see any good reason these two targets 
should be different, though.

I will have to look into it before commenting further.
