At least the capability to `objcopy' to ecoff-*mips has to stay for the sake of some old systems' firmware requiring that format for boot images (though some may prefer the `elf2ecoff' tool lurking around). Therefore I'd expect a need for the BFD target to stay for the foreseeable future; the rest may or may not be required -- AFAIR DEC Ultrix support was dropped from GCC a while ago; can't say about SGI IRIX or MIPSCO systems. That written I may well see if I can find some time to have a look into these ECOFF failures; I have planned to do some ECOFF testing having had seen some changes to relocation matching patterns that were a bit too aggressive IMO.
