The only difference in the above is the address that the files are
linked at.  So..

$ ld/ld-new -Ttext=0x200000 -o equcall equcall.o 
$ objdump -d equcall

equcall:     file format elf32-i386


Disassembly of section .text:

00200000 <_start>:
  200000:	e8 3b 00 f0 ff       	call   100040 <b_print_newline>
  200005:	c3                   	ret    
$
