(Apologies for the noise, I believe I failed to properly reply to the mailing list with an earlier reply) Thanks for your input. I've uploaded packages built with both 2.42 and 2.43 to a github repository here: https://github.com/bepaald/binutils_issue I've also included the buildlogs and added a little description in the README.
