Abstract
An annotated bibliography is presented for the ellipsoidal variable class of noneclipsing close binaries, and a method is furnished for the analysis of the light curves and spectroscopic data to determine the physical parameters of such systems. Attention is given to confirmed ellipsoidal variables, as well as suspected and rejected ones, and to the characteristics of theoretical ellipsoidal light curves.
