Abstract
Few pieces of vaporware have evoked a higher level of fear and uncertainty than Microsoft's Palladium: Palladium is a plot to take over cyberspace; Palladium will keep us from running any software not personally approved by Bill Gates; and so on. Its press got so bad that Microsoft changed the name to the mnemonically challenged "Next-Generation Secure Computing Base."
