Evolution of TRP channels inferred by their classification in diverse animal species

ADS

Abstract

TRPN appeared to emerge in the last common ancestor of Cnidaria–Bilateria. Ancient metazoan TRP channels except TRPN must function in non-neuronal cells. We have found a novel TRP subfamily member, TRPVL in Cnidaria and annelid. Water flea and insects have expanded TRPA diverged from the ancient TRPA1. Our study shows the plastic evolution of TRP channels by gene gain and loss.
