Community News!

2020 was quite the year. We focused our year in review write up on all the awesome events that happened throughout 2020. Read the full blog and we hope it warms your heart like it did for us!

A new sponsorship program!

We knew once PyCon 2020 in-person was cancelled, we needed a new approach for sponsorship. After several discussions with community sponsors and a non-profit consultant, the PSF designed a new approach for sponsorship!

We now provide an array of PSF, PyPI (Python Package Index), CPython, and PyCon benefits via a menu-like presentation. Select a prix fixe option or choose a la carte!

2021 Python Steering Council

The 2021 Python Steering Council was elected in December. of 2020 Welcome Pablo Galindo Salgado!

Election Reform Community Update

In June of 2020, the PSF Board Directors opened a discussion to solicit feedback on the topic of election reform. The discussion touched on term limits, geographic makeup of directors and members, employer limits amongst the board, and general discussions about procedures, ballots, and voting. In December, the PSF Board approved the Diversity and Inclusion Work Group which is related to this reform.

PyCon US News!

PyCon US 2021 launched call for proposals! 

Proposals are due February 12, 2021!

PyCon is seeking speakers of all experience levels and backgrounds! If you use Python professionally, as a hobbyist, or are just excited about Python and open source communities, submit a proposal!

Here's the timeline for talks:

  • December 22, 2020 — Call for proposals opened
  • February 12, 2021 — Proposals are due
  • March 16, 2021 — Notifications will be sent to presenters
  • March 23, 2021 — Deadline for speakers to confirm participation
  • March 30, 2021 — Schedule is publicly released
  • April 28, 2021 — Deadline to submit pre-recorded presentation (tutorials will be live)
  • May 12-13, 2021 — Tutorial days
  • May 15-16, 2021 — Conference days

Donor News!

The PSF is wrapping up its end-of-the-year fundraiser. As of Jan 13 we can confirm we were able to raise more than $130,000! (there are several more co-ventures coming in)

Project News!

After three amazing in-person conferences, PyCascades is moving online.  This year we're going virtual and are offering one day of virtual social events, one day of live-streamed talks, and one day of mentored sprints. Join us February 19th — 21st, 2021!  

PyCascades is a fiscal sponsoree of the PSF and operates a regional PyCon in the Pacific Northwest, celebrating the west coast Python developer and user community. Our organizing team includes members of the Vancouver, Seattle, and Portland Python user groups.
