The Crow is an enemy in EarthBound Beginnings, found around Podunk. It doesn't hit very hard, but can be annoying to fight, because it can steal recovery items.
The Spiteful Crow from EarthBound is likely based on this enemy.

Trivia
In the Japanese Famicom release, the Crow was holding a cigarette in its left wing. This was removed in all subsequent releases.
