Assistant City Manager Mario Vasquez

A veteran public servant with more than 28 years of experience in City government, Vasquez brings steady leadership, deep institutional knowledge, and a long-standing commitment to Kansas City neighborhoods.

Vasquez began his career with the City in 1997 as an entry-level planner and has served in multiple leadership roles, including Project Manager, Assistant City Manager, and most recently, Director of City Planning and Development. He is recognized for his collaborative approach, practical problem-solving, and deep understanding of Kansas City’s housing, infrastructure, and development challenges.

“Serving this city has been one of the greatest honors of my life,” said Vasquez. “I look forward to working with our staff, elected officials, and community partners to deliver responsive, reliable services and to keep Kansas City moving forward.

As City Manager, Vasquez will oversee a $2.5 billion budget and nearly 5,000 employees. His focus will include housing production and preservation, infrastructure investment, economic development, and continued improvements to public service delivery.

Vasquez begins immediately in his new role.
