Java - Integer toBinaryString() method
Description
The Java Integer toBinaryString() method returns a string representation of the integer argument as an unsigned integer in base 2.
Declaration
Following is the declaration for java.lang.Integer.toBinaryString() method
public static String toBinaryString(int i)
Parameters
i − This is an integer to be converted to a string.
Return Value
This method returns the string representation of the unsigned integer value represented by the argument in binary (base 2).
Exception
NA
Getting Binary Representation of a Positive int Value Example
The following example shows the usage of Integer toBinaryString() method to get the binary string representation of the specified int value. We've created a int variable and assigned it a positive int value. Then using toBinaryString() method, we're printing the result.
package com.tutorialspoint;
public class IntegerDemo {
public static void main(String[] args) {
int i = 170;
System.out.println("Number = " + i);
/* returns the binary string representation of the given number */
System.out.println("toBinaryString = " + Integer.toBinaryString(i));
}
}
Output
Let us compile and run the above program, this will produce the following result −
Number = 170 toBinaryString = 10101010
Getting Binary Representation of a Negative int Value Example
The following example shows the usage of Integer toBinaryString() method to get the binary string representation of the specified int value. We've created a int variable and assigned it a negative int value. Then using toBinaryString() method, we're printing the result.
package com.tutorialspoint;
public class IntegerDemo {
public static void main(String[] args) {
int i = -170;
System.out.println("Number = " + i);
/* returns the binary string representation of the given number */
System.out.println("toBinaryString = " + Integer.toBinaryString(i));
}
}
Output
Let us compile and run the above program, this will produce the following result −
Number = -170 toBinaryString = 11111111111111111111111101010110
Getting Binary Representation of a Positive Zero int Value Example
The following example shows the usage of Integer toBinaryString() method to get the binary string representation of the specified int value. We've created a int variable and assigned it a zero value. Then using toBinaryString() method, we're printing the result.
package com.tutorialspoint;
public class IntegerDemo {
public static void main(String[] args) {
int i = 0;
System.out.println("Number = " + i);
/* returns the binary string representation of the given number */
System.out.println("toBinaryString = " + Integer.toBinaryString(i));
}
}
Output
Let us compile and run the above program, this will produce the following result −
Number = 0 toBinaryString = 0
