Ella Lane is the mother of Superman's romantic interest and later wife Lois Lane. Her husband is military general Sam Lane, and she also has a second daughter named Lucy Lane. She was widowed when her husband died during the Our Worlds at War event. In the Iron Age, she was renamed Elinore Lane, and in the Modern Age, she was renamed Elenor Lane.

Ella Lane was created by Jerry Siegel and Wayne Boring, first appearing in Superman #10 (1941), but was first named in Superman's Girl Friend, Lois Lane #13 (1959).
