A publicly traded company, Lucid’s majority stakeholder is the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund. There are plans for Lucid to establish a factory in Saudi Arabia, to produce 150,000 vehicles per year in 2025.
An automaker in its infancy, Lucid makes its vehicles in Casa Grande, Arizona. Lucid makes just one car so far: a high-end luxury car known as the Lucid Air. It entered production in 2021 and was a stunner, loaded with performance, technology and style. It quickly earned accolades and endorsements from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and awards from publications like MotorTrend. The automaker is hoping to follow up this success with an SUV known as Project Gravity, which should be revealed within the next year, or so. The automaker also played a part in the Formula E racing series, helping to integrate the battery into the racecars.
The Lucid Air is currently the only vehicle sold by the automaker and is offered in four trims. The entry-level model is called Lucid Air Pure and starts at $121,500. It makes 480 horsepower and features a range of 660 km thanks to its single rear motor and its 88 kWh battery. Shoppers can upgrade to the Air Touring, which costs $148,500 and features 620 hp and 684 km of range. The Air features a bigger battery and a dual motor setup that includes all-wheel-drive. Shoppers are drawn to the Air Grand Touring, which features next-level performance. There’s over 1,000 hp at play in this model and a range of 830 km on a single charge, which is among the longest-range EVs on the market. The high-tech sedan features DC Fast Charging rates of up to 300 kW, which should help the battery net 482 kilometres of range in just 20 minutes of charging. One more highlight of the Air is its DreamDrive suite of driver assistants and safety features, which Lucid describes as a semi-autonomous system informed by over 30 sensors and cameras. The vehicle’s infotainment system is powered by Google’s Android Automotive OS, and also features facial recognition and a phone-as-key feature.
