A fell monster named after Ultima, the High Seraph. Attacks with the incredibly destructive Demon Magicks.
Description
Ultima Demons (アルテマデーモン, Arutema Dēmon?) are servants of the Lucavi Ultima in Final Fantasy Tactics. They are more powerful than their Archaeodaemon counterparts and are purplish blue in places where the Archaeodaemons are red. They boast high stats and cast powerful magick. They are immune to holy-elemental attacks. Like all monsters, Ultima Demons have innate Counter; they also have innate Brawler and Swiftspell.
Much like Archaeodaemons, Ultima Demons are rare monsters that only appear in a handful of battles. Celia and Lettie, the two assassins serving Marquis Elmdore, transform into Ultima Demons during the battle at Limberry Castle. Ultima Demons are also summoned by Folmarv Tengille to fight along side the undead Zalbaag in Eagrose Castle, and are present during the final battle in the depths of the Necrohol of Mullonde.
Ramza Beoulve, Alma Beoulve, and Luso Clemens can learn its Ultima spell, one of the enemy abilities, if they are hit by it and survive the magick while in their respective default jobs.

Other appearances[]
Final Fantasy XIV[]
The Ultima Demons appear in the "Return to Ivalice" series of raids as an even more powerful variation of the Archaeodaemons invoked by Gilbrisbert quo Buteo during the skirmish "Meet the Puppetmaster", although they are visually identical, contrasting with their characteristic purplish blue color that distinguished them as a species in Final Fantasy Tactics. Strangely, the Ultima Demons of this world also share the same attacks as their counterparts.
Ultima Demons were employed by the IVth Imperial Legion during their campaign against the Bozjan Resistance in Zadnor.

Etymology[]
[view · edit · purge]Ultima means "the last" in Latin and many Latin-based languages. The word is an inflection of ultimus which is the superlative of ulter, which means "that is beyond". In the Spanish versions of many Final Fantasy games, the spell Ultima's name is written as "Artema", a close transliteration of the Japanese katakana.
[view · edit · purge]A demon is "an evil spirit or devil, especially one thought to possess a person or act as a tormentor in hell".
