Wassenaar municipality
Population (1 Jan 2003): 26.029; area: 62,50 km². Settlements: Wassenaar (seat).Flag: blue with three white crescents pointing upwards, placed 2,1. - adoption date unknown.
Wassenaar is Dutch for crescent; the original name is probably derived from something like "wet lands"; after the Crusades the Wassenaar family, which ruled this area, placed crescents on their arms, probably because one or two members had participated in the Crusades.
