It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain blue field.

The arms are Argent between two pairs of barrulets wavy Azure and surrounded by two pairs of wheat ears Vert tied Gules a bee Sable emphasized Or. Mural crown Argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "VILA DE BOTICAS".
Meaning:
The barrulets stand for local rivers, the wheat means farming, the bee means workmanship, and the heraldic metals and colours bear the usual pseudo-historical claptrap: green for hope and faith, red for strength, vigour and stamina, black for firmness and honesty, blue for charity and loyalty and white for humility and wealth. "Boticas" may mean either "stores", or "shops" (from Greek "apoþeka"), or be a diminutive of "boots". These arms are canting for neither of these percieved meanings.

Flag and arms were established by the CHAAP on 17 February 1937 and adopted as a ministerial drecree (portaria) from the Interior Ministry issued on 11 April 1949 and published in Diário do Governo : II Série on 20 April 1949

Presentation of Boticas
Boticas municipality had 6417 inhabitants in 2001 and consists of 10 communes covering 322,41 km². It is part of Vila Real District, traditional province and 1999 ref. adm. region Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro, C.C.R. / NUTS II Norte, and NUTS III Alto Trás-os-Montes.
