markwbrown - Overview

Hey, Iโ€™m Mark Brown ๐Ÿ‘‹

Software engineer โ€ข systems builder โ€ข long-term problem solver

Iโ€™ve been building software since the era of beige towers and floppy disks. Over the years, Iโ€™ve worked on public-sector platforms, internal business systems, manufacturing workflows, and real-world automation.

Much of the work I do lives behind logins, inside organizations, or evolves past its original form โ€” which is exactly how software should age.

๐Ÿง  What I focus on

  • Designing durable systems that survive changing requirements
  • Turning messy real-world processes into software that people actually use
  • Bridging frontend, backend, data, and hardware
  • Making software understandable by the next person who has to touch it

๐Ÿ›  Selected experience

  • Public-sector platform engineering
Contributed to a national disaster lending system supporting emergency relief and recovery during large-scale natural events.

  • Manufacturing & compliance systems
Built internal tools for regulated environments where data lineage, traceability, and reliability mattered.

  • Logistics & operations software
Designed and implemented systems supporting dispatch, invoicing, and operational workflows โ€” later replaced as organizations scaled or adopted commercial platforms.

  • E-commerce & brand platforms
Developed custom storefronts and internal tools for consumer brands, several of which were later acquired or sunset as businesses evolved.

  • Industrial & robotics projects
Ongoing work with sensors, telemetry, automation, and software that interacts with the physical world.

๐Ÿงช Tools & technologies

  • Frontend: React, Vue, PWAs, performance optimization
  • Backend: Node.js, Koa, REST APIs, background jobs
  • Data: Python, NumPy, Pandas
  • Infra: Docker, Linux, deployment & automation
  • Hardware: Robotics, sensors, telemetry pipelines

๐ŸŒฑ Outside of code

When Iโ€™m not working on software, Iโ€™m usually reading, gardening, or building machines that blur the line between hardware and software.
