The N-Zone is one of many zones that exists directly below the normal universe. The other zones are also labeled with letters (e.g. the Z-Zone and the Q-Zone). The N-Zone has an atmosphere that is lethally acidic to humans and the Fantastic Four, with the exception of the Thing, required space suits to live.
It is tied to the powers granted to the Fantastic Four and is the homeplace of Nihil. The N-Zone is a dimension in the latter stages of entropic heat death, with less than a million years of existence left to it. There are few stars still burning, mostly long-lived red dwarf stars, and despite the advanced technology of many races, life barely maintains a toehold on its existence. Space is also apparently foreshortened in this dimension, with the Fantastic Four's shuttle Awesome achieving speeds that would be impossible in their own universe.[2]

This version of the N-Zone is called "Planet Zero". The dimension was found by Franklin Storm's science team. In case to explore, Franklin's science team builded a machine that travels humans into this dimension. They sent five scientists on a mission in Planet Zero: Reed Richards, Ben Grimm, Victor von Doom, and Franklin's children Sue and Johnny Storm. However instead, this mission was partly failed, as Victor seemingly died, and the four others successfully escaped, although not without a casualty; the machine was destroyed. With this incident, they obtained superpowers and partly become fugitives.
One year later, the science team now led by Harvey Allen sent another five humans to the dimension to explore further; however, they found out Victor is still alive, now known as "Doom" who owned the dimension since his look a likes death. He planned to destroy Earth by opening a portal that would replace the planet with Planet Zero. However, Reed, Sue, Johnny and Ben - now know as heroes called the "Fantastic Four" - successfully saves their planet and kills Doom.
- The N-Zone was conceived as a reimagining of the Negative Zone in the Ultimate Universe, and its equivalent. A proper Negative Zone would later be introduced in Ultimate Doom #4.
