- Zefram Cochrane performs the dedication at the opening of the Warp 5 Complex, a facility built to design and build Earth's first warp 5 engine, on Earth.[2]
- Humans make first contact with the Orion colonies, located in the Rigel system.[3]
- Zefram Cochrane, age 87, disappears from his home on Alpha Centauri, last seen heading into deep space aboard his ship. He eventually ends up on the planetoid Gamma Canaris, having been rescued by the Companion.[2][4][5]
- The Earth starship SS Tomobiki is launched for two deep space exploration missions, one under the command of Captain Dave Glick and another under Captain Peter Lauritson.[6][7]
- According to one account Humans developted warp drive in this year.[8]
