The Battle of Thranstor was a starship engagement during the Four Years War between the United Federation of Planets and the Klingon Empire in the 2250s decade. Fought in the Thranstor system's two asteroid belts, it was also notable for routing the Klingon advance at its deepest penetration into Federation space.
History and specifics[]
The Klingon invasion force was made up of six full battle force units (at 27 ships each, totaling 162 warships), featuring D10 Riskadh-class and D20 Death Rite-class cruisers. Its aim was to invade Adhara, believed by the Klingon High Command to be a key Starfleet military operations center. (FASA RPG module: The Four Years War)

The Federation's defense fleet included more than 170 starships, giving them a numerical advantage. It featured the Tikopai-class subtype of Constitution-class heavy cruiser, as well as Loknar-class frigates and Larson-class destroyers.
Taking place amid asteroids laden with nickel and iron that interfered with sensors, the battle had to be fought at impulse speeds. Federation ships were able to outflank the Klingons, and the Loknar ships' aft accelerator cannons were particularly effective in their attacks on reference stardate 1/9704.
Aftermath[]
More than 100 starships were permanently disabled and another 100 heavily damaged during the battle. The wounded invasion force retreated back toward Klingon territory, taking several days to regroup. The momentum of the war shifted toward the Federation. (FASA RPG module: The Four Years War)
Defeats at Thranstor and at the Battle of Argelius on the other side of the front highlighted worsening logistics difficulties, as both battered fleets were left without reinforcements or provisions. Admiral Kamato used the failures to attempt a coup, but failed. His Klingon House would subsequently exile themselves to the Triangle to found the Imperial Klingon States.
