The Dauntless II class^[1] was a 24th century Federation starship type, a science vessel equipped with a quantum slipstream drive in Starfleet service in the 2380s decade. In the year 2384, the USS Dauntless served as the flagship of Vice Admiral Kathryn Janeway. (PRD episode: "A Moral Star")

The 25th century, the Dauntless II class was derived from Species 116's Dauntless-class, which itself was adapted by Starfleet, as a tier 6-rated command science dreadnought. The Dauntless II was operated by Starfleet and the Khitomer Alliance service into the 2410s decade. (STO website: Incursion: Command the Dauntless II!)

History and technical specifications[]

B'Elanna Torres served as project lead for the development of this class. She suggested the name Dauntless as a solemn reminder of her time with Janeway time aboard USS Voyager when it was lost in the Delta Quadrant. (Instagram - Star Trek Logs - Prodigy post: Janeway - Vice Admiral's Log )

During her time as captain of Voyager in the 2370s, Janeway had encountered a fake Federation starship created by Arturis of Species 116. This Dauntless-class vessel introduced Starfleet to the quantum slipstream drive. The Dauntless itself was lost to the Borg in the year 2374. (VOY episode: "Hope and Fear")

In 2381, Captain Carol Freeman noted in a crew handbook for her ship that the California-class USS Cerritos did not have the bleeding-edge technology of the Dauntless. (LD module: Lower Decks - Crew Handbook)

The USS Dauntless (NCC-80816) was a wholly Starfleet-based interpretation of the original Dauntless, unlike the USS Dauntless (NX-47700/NX-01-A) experimental science vessel. As a command science dreadnought, the Dauntless II class combined the characteristics of a command ship with that of a dreadnought, specifically a science dreadnought. Typically for starships of its time period, a Dauntless II-class vessel was equipped with phaser beam arrays and photon torpedo launchers. It was equipped with a impulse engines, warp core and hyper-advanced quantum slipstream drive, enabling it to reach impulse, warp, transwarp and quantum slipstream velocities. Cloaking was not an innate ability but various mechanisms could be installed to serve as a cloaking device. The hull was modular and could be modified at shipyards interfaces operated by New Romulus Shipyards, Klingon Defense Force Order of Builders and Starfleet Shipyards Operations at Alliance facilities across the Milky Way Galaxy.
