Gregori Antonov Markova was a 23rd century Human man, a longtime instructor at Starfleet Academy who served as chief engineer of the USS Cooper under Commodore William Masefield.

Biography[]

Markova was an authority on astronautics, warp drive technology, and computer operations. He had professional-level study and experience in administration as well as the technology of communications systems and small equipment. He was qualified in environmental suit operations, instruction, leadership, marksmanship, computer science, small unit tactics, Federation law, and zero gravity operations. He enjoyed studying the Vulcan language as a hobby, and was perpetually healthy. He was an optimist, cheery, lucky, tall, thin, and wore his hair in a bowl cut.

Around the turn of the 2270s decade, Markova graduated from Starfleet Academy, having earned honors during his cadet cruise. He then served for four years in the Merchant Marines division. In the mid-2270s, he accepted an instructor position at the Academy, where he very much enjoyed teaching astronautics and warp drive technology for ten years. For four of those years, his future CO William Masefield also taught there.

In 2284, Markova was promoted to second officer and chief engineer of the USS Cooper under Masefield, based out of Starbase 32. During Markova's tenure, the ship completed a patrol mission for seven months, during which the ship's warp drive and dilithium regulator needed to be overhauled, which reduced the ship's maximum safe cruising speed to warp six.

In 2285, before an overhaul could be conducted, Cooper was diverted to Arcanis IV, visited Axanar to search for a potentially hidden Klingon outpost, and was confronted by a Klingon fleet. Markova used any available downtime to repair other stressed systems such as the sensors. (FASA RPG module: Return to Axanar)
