Kurillian

The Kurillians were a species that lived on the planet Kurill Prime as the dominant race and the inspiration for its name. Their fortunes turned, however, when the Dominion wreaked a savage vengeance onto the Kurillian for its persecution of their Changeling overlords, the Founders, who had the last members of the people reduced to a more limited sentience as animalistic remnants that were replaced with the Vorta.

History[]

.

Kurill Prime.

Residents of Kurill Prime, the Kurillians either took their name after this world or named it themselves as the population which achieved dominance over the planet. However, although the Kurillians ruled the homeworld, it was also home to a race of timid, ape-like hominids known as Vorta, who dwelt in the hollowed trees. During ancient times, the Kurillians found their planet had been trodden on with the feet of a Changeling who was a scout for their persecuted species, which had been reduced to a hunted people from the prejudice faced from the "solids". When brought into contact with the shapeshifter, a gang of Kurillians hounded the intruder, but were unable located them thanks to the asylum that a family of Vorta offered their target. When the Changelings next made planetfall on Kurill, it was as the revered Founders of the Dominion, an interstellar empire that elevated the Vorta to become an influential element of its power structure. The Kurillians, on the other hand, were made to suffer for their persecution of the Changelings.

Under the reign of the Great Link, the Kurillians were taken before Drai biochemists who manipulated their genetic structure in a manner that devolved the physical structure and intellectual aptitude until these individuals - once masters of their homeworld - were reduced to a state resembling the simian form of the earliest Vorta. Deprived of their speech organs and the greatest majority of their intelligence, the last survivors of this race were contained inside a walled garden, which was maintained to demonstrate the vengeance of the Founders and present a warning to the Vorta about the price for disobedience or incompetence.
