Operation Kingmaker was a short roleplay module for FASA's Star Trek: The Role Playing Game written in 1987. It was the tenth of eleven licensed adventures published in FASA magazines, this one in Stardate Magazine vol.3 #4.

Summary[]

The Federation hopes that treaty negotiations with the Gorn Alliance will form a united front against the Romulan Star Empire. However, Gorn diplomats don't consider the Romulans as large a threat as Starfleet.

To change their minds, Star Fleet Intelligence Command creates Operation Kingmaker, a secret mission in which agents manufacture border skirmishes to look like Romulan incursions. Commodore Stilad at Starbase 17 is assigned as the task group's case officer, and Klingon/Romulan fusion defector Koar joins the team to portray a scout or merchant ship's captain. Additionally, a captured Praetor-class warpshuttle is given to the group. All operatives are equipped with sidearms and other equipment, including disguise kits.

• As with other adventures released in volume 3 of Stardate Magazine, creators went uncredited.
• The story's date was unspecified. However, Commodore Stilad's front organization Ajax Intestel Tours Limited was founded on reference stardate 2/1004.13, and the story's warpshuttle entered service the same year, corresponding to the late 2260s. As the shuttle was captured "several years prior", the earliest story placement would be in the mid-2270s. Background details were current as of 2/2301, corresponding to the late 2280s, which would be the latest placement.
• While not mentioned, agents might be experienced with the Starfleet Intelligence Gorn Activities Unit. Presumably, the gamemaster could involve facilities established near the Gorn border, including R1 Invictus-class defense outposts 29, 194, 238, 396 and 507, as well as locations cited in FASA RPG module: Demand of Honor.
