Story[]
Act 1[]
- "Prologue"
- Captain's log, stardate 57931.4.
- The crew is restless.
- After spending too many months piecing our ship back together, we're finally about to venture out on a new mission and the crew isn't letting this unprecedented ion storm slow them down. They're ready for something different. I know I am. Perhaps more than any of them.
- Fortunately, nothing ever stays the same. It's entropy. The nature of the universe. Change is inevitable, and while entropy says order gives way to chaos, in this case change is good...
- Our new first officer is en route to the USS Resolute… Jara Rydek. I know she'll bring a welcome dose of new blood to the crew.
- It won't be easy for Jara to step in at the eleventh hour like this. But if she's half the officer I knew she could become when she was a cadet at Starfleet Academy, she'll be the XO this ship needs right now. — Captain Zachary Solano, commanding officer, USS Resolute
- Solano's log plays as the intro credits roll. Shuttlecraft Bronson is traveling through an ion storm. As the log mentions Jara Rydek, the player assumes the perspective of Rydek, who can see a reflection of herself as she looks out the shuttle's observation port. An ionic discharge rocks the shuttle, breaking Rydek from her apparent reverie.
- The perspective switches to above, where we can see Rydek sitting between two unnamed ensigns on the starboard side of the cabin. Ensign Paul Calloway and Petty Officer Miranda Maris can be seen sitting on the port side. A PADD flies from Calloway's hand. Rydek either catches it or lets it fall to the ground and then picks it up, offering it back to Calloway. Rydek and Calloway have a brief conversation regarding Calloway's anxieties about the shuttle ride and his new posting on the Resolute, when Rydek confides that she too is here for a new posting on Resolute.
- Jara looks back out the observation port, where we can see the shuttle has arrived at Starbase 128. The USS Intercept can be seen moored at Terminal 3, USS Centennial appears at Terminal 2. The USS Kimball and USS Cormorant maneuver around the station. As Solano's log finishes, the perspective transitions to the exterior of the shuttle for a flyby. The USS Resolute can be seen here at Terminal 4 as the title card is displayed. Bronson continues in to dock with the starbase.
Title card.
- "Change of Station"
- Upon arriving at Starbase 128 the occupants of the shuttle Bronson filter through security. Commander Rydek and Ensign Calloway discuss the Torvallin test, a Starfleet Academy tactical simulation that Calloway boasts is even more difficult and prestigious than the infamous Kobayashi Maru scenario.
Starbase 128 concourse welcome message.
- The young ensign blusters about his top 20 all-time score. When Rydek goes through the bioscanner it shows her half-Human half-Kobliad lineage. Calloway is astonished that he didn't recognize Rydek sooner, as she had scored in the top 3 all-time on the Torvallin test.
Lower Concourse, Terminal 4, Starbase 128.
- The security officer informs Rydek she needs to meet Commander Yann Urmott, and she heads down the concourse to the lounge. After briefly exploring the lounge, Rydek and Urmott proceed down to the lower concourse while discussing Rydek's history. He explains that her duty on a small science vessel might be quite different from her previous assignment on the USS Endeavour. From the lower concourse, the pair can get a full view of the Resolute. Urmott marvels that the ship had come along way since almost being destroyed six months before, though he hesitates to say more about it. He also cautions that she may not receive a warm welcome from all of the crew. The chapter ends with Urmott mentioning the high-priority mission to the Hotari system and saying Captain Solano would want to meet her as soon as possible.

Act 2[]
- "Cast Adrift"
- The Resolute arrives at the rendez-vous point just outside of Hotari space to find the diplomat's shuttle adrfit in an asteroid field. Diaz takes charge of the tractor beam, using it to clear a path to tow the shuttle into the hangar bay. When an asteroid too big for the tractor beam to handle threatens to hit the shuttle, Rydek plots an intercept course, causing it to break up as it hits the Resolute instead.
- Once the shuttle passengers begin to disembark the shuttle which has landed safely, the diplomat's identity is revealed, Ambassador Spock. Diaz welcomes him aboard as he waits to be greeted by Captain Solano who is eager to get started.
- "A Provocation to War"
- In the Briefing room Solano introduces Spock to the Resolute's senior officers, and he informs them about their mission. The Alydians and Hotari share a joint mining operation on the Hotari moon of Tau; the Alydian's provide the equipment while the Hotari provide the manual labour. The Hotari have recently taken control of the mines however, and forced the Alydians to leave. The Resolute's mission is to negotiate a peaceful end to this stand off, though Bedrosian points out that resuming the status quo would resume the Alydians profiting from Hotari resources. While the continuing ion storm levels the playing field by negating the Alydian's use of their more advanced technology, the fact that the Federation has been using them as a source for their dilithium also complicates matters. After the briefing, Spock asks Rydek to find out as much as she can through "unofficial" channels while he and Solano are conducting the negotiations.
- "Navigational Complexities"
- While investigating why Spock's shuttle dropped out of warp unexpectedly, Edsilar questions Diaz about the possibility of him and Maris being more than just friends. They then see Maris before she and the rest of the security detail join the negotiating team travelling down to Hotari.
- When simulating the shuttle's journey in Main Engineering, Carter and Diaz discover that whatever forced its warp drive to fail will also effect the Resolute in just the same way, trapping them in Hotari space.
- "Seat of Power"
- Spock, Solano, and Rydek are welcomed to Hotari by Tylas Altaras, Minister of Diplomatic Affairs, who also introduces them to Galvan and Sidron, who lead the revolt in the mines. Initial negotiations are conducted with the Hotari Queen, though they do not go well. When Spock recommends further negotiations should be conducted by only one representative for each side, Rydek uses the time to investigate.
- Tylas informs Rydek that Galvan has taken her place as the Queen's advisor, and is hiding something found in the mines which have been sealed since the revolt. She gives Tylas a tricorder to help identify what it might be. Sidron believes the Alydians are more than capable of retaliating but lack the courage to do so, and Alydian Major Sarlit Arminta explains how witnesses have reported that the Hotari were able to use the ion storm to aid in their revolt. Meanwhile official negotiations continue to stall.
- "The Scientific Method"
- Diaz, Edsilar, Chovak, and Westbrook run another simulation which leads them to the fabric of space itself being the cause of their warp difficulties. While using a shuttle to deploy probes around the Resolute's warp field, Diaz and Westbrook discover that both the source of the interference, and the storm itself are emanating from the same place: Tau.
- "Suspicions"
- Westbrook informs Rydek, Spock, And Solano who are on the shuttle back to the Resolute and they discuss how this impacts their findings so far. Tylas contacts Rydek as she is able to access what Galvan is hiding and sends the scan details from her tricorder, but is soon interrupted.
- "Containment Protocol"
- Diaz and Edsilar begin examining the diplomatic group's shuttle to analyse information from its sensors and warp drive about the storm. While doing so they discover a crystal formation that is eminating Tetrametric radiation. Maris steps siting regulations which declare it to be a security threat, and takes it away in a containment field.
- "Symbols and Legends"
- At a briefing, Rydek informs the command crew of Tylas' findings, and matches a glyph on the artefact to be that of the Tkon Empire. This directs them to Starfleet's records of the USS Enterprise's incident at Delphi Ardu IV, and their encounter with Portal 63. Westbrook explains they have pinpointed the source on Tau to a specific mine, which Solano orders Rydek on a covert away mission to. With more Alydian ships heading for Hotari Prime, Spock suggests he and Solano head back as well, also acting as a disctraction to aid Rydek.
- "Lost and Found"
- Diaz, Edsilar, Chovak, and Westbrook learn that Maris and the rest of the negotiation's security detail failed to deliver the crystal to the containment lab. Tracking Maris to the Isolinear storage array, Diaz sets of to find her. Discovering several Isolinear chips pulled out of place, Diaz find Maris copying data onto a storage console, and she becomes increasingly confrontational. Joining them, Calloway considers this a security breach, whereas Edislar says Maris hasn't been herself since coming back from Hotari, and should be taken to sickbay.
