The Rock of Gibraltar, also known as Gibraltar Rock, is a mass of land on the planet Earth, located in Gibraltar, off the south-western tip of Europe on the Iberian PeninsulaWP. It had once been home to an important military bastion during one of Earth's wars.
In 1940, Ardelia Mathis made a prediction with such confidences that it seemed as reliable as the Rock of Gibraltar. (DS9 novelization: Far Beyond the Stars)
In 2270, when Captain Jeremiah Chandler said he thought he saw something moving on the USS Cochise's viewscreen, Commander Esther Ansfield replied that the Rock of Gibraltar could seem to move if one stared hard enough. (TOS novel: The Final Nexus)
In 2273, James T. Kirk, while contacting Starfleet Headquarters at Gibraltar, could make out Gibraltar Rock in the distance. (TOS novelization: The Motion Picture)
