Sector 3556 was a region of space, a sector located in the galaxy's Delta Quadrant. (TNG episode: "The Price")

History and specifics[]

This sector was named by Federation stellar cartography, and determined to be located nearly 200 lightyears beyond the Denkiri Arm, a galactic arm in the Gamma Quadrant.

On stardate 43385.6 in the year 2366, the Barzans held an auction for what was believed to be a stable wormhole leading from Barzan II to the Denkiri Arm. Starfleet and the Ferengi were among the auctioneers, and took readings when passing through the Barzan wormhole. They emerged in Sector 3556, in the galaxy's Delta Quadrant, instead. Lieutenant Commanders Geordi La Forge and Data determined the wormhole was unstable and returned to the Barzan system while they could. Their Ferengi counterparts Arridor and Kol trusted that the wormhole would open on time but were left stranded when the exit jumped away. (TNG episode: "The Price")

By 2373, the two Ferengi had taken their Na'Far-class shuttlepod to the Takar system, 70.000 lightyears from Sol. In that year, the wayward Federation starship USS Voyager found them on Takar II^[1]. The wormhole was in that star system at the time. Following interference by Starfleet, the pair of Ferengi escaped back to the Alpha Quadrant through the Barzan wormhole, destabilizing it in the process and leaving Voyager stranded.
