Support cruiser

History and specifications[]

The original Ambassador-class design by Captain Andrew Probert was ahead of its time in the year 2319. The fluid forms of the original hull were later incorporated in the Galaxy-class. (STO website: Victory Is Life: New Support Cruisers Join the Alliance Fleet)

In 2344, the series-production Ambassador-class heavy cruiser USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-C) sacrificed itself during the Battle of Narendra III to defend a Klingon colony on Narendra III from a Romulan attack. (TNG episode: "Yesterday's Enterprise")

In 2409, the 29th century Federation timeship Pastak investigated an aberration of the timeline created when the Enterprise-C left the battle at Narendra through a temporal anomaly. The Enterprise-C crew, supported by a visiting freighter captain, liberated their ship and held their own against 25th century Tholian starships. The Pastak destroyed an Tarantula-class dreadnought but suffered damage and lost weapons. Captain Benjamin Walker, in command, of the Pastak, relied on the Enterprise-C for its defense and defeating the Tholians. The 24th century ship was a match for the uptime vessels. In 2410, Starfleet used 25th century technology to realize Probert's design under the Narendra-class development program. The USS Narendra (NCC-90520) launched on stardate 87703.1. (STO website: Victory Is Life: New Support Cruisers Join the Alliance Fleet)

The Narendra represented its class on the Starfleet Shipyards Operations interface across Khitomer Alliance shipyard facilities across the Milky Way Galaxy. The tier 6-rated Narendra class was complemented by two additional classes, the refitted Ambassador and its Yamaguchi-subclass variant. Starfleet and the Klingon Imperial Defense Force cooperated during the development of the Narendra class, leading to a modernization of the 2360s-era Vor'cha-class battlecruiser. Following the Battle of Excalbia on stardate 84999.22^[1] in January 2411, which saw the prominent involvement of hero ships from the Federation's past and present, several Khitomer Alliance ships underwent a refit to legendary starship^[2] qualifications. The Narendra received its upgrades shortly after the Shattering of the Klingon Empire during the Klingon Civil War of 2411. The Narendra then performed maneuvers in orbit of a planet. (STO website: House Reborn: Updates to the Ambassador and Narendra)

After the return of Klingon Chancellor L'Rell^[3], Starfleet's support cruisers were refitted to legendary starship standards. Narendra, Yamaguchi and Enterprise-C replica were upgraded to match the capabilities of the newly launched Horatio-class legendary temporal support cruiser USS Horatio (NCC-90600). Similarly, the KDF updated the Vor'cha class and related classes, including the Kamarag, Tor'Kaht and Vor'ral-class support battlecruisers based on the standard of the new legendary command support battlecruiser IKS Kronos One.
