The USS Athena (NCC-392023[2] and NCC-325301[1]) was a 32nd century Federation spacecraft, an Academy-class starship in Starfleet service in the 3190s decade. In the year 3195, the Athena was assigned to Starfleet Academy. Its commanding officer, Captain Nahla Ake, fulfilled the additional role of Chancellor of Starfleet Academy. The registry number NCC-392023 was painted on the hull while the alternative registry NCC-325301, alongside the class name and "Wisdom begins in wonder," motto were inscribed on the ship's dedication plaque. (SA episode: "Kids These Days")

Service history[]

The TRAPPIST 1e Shipyards were listed as the ship's production facility of the Athena on its dedication plaque. In an address to the cadets of Starfleet Academy, Chancellor Ake explained her ship was named after Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom. Like the captain, the first officer Commander Lura Thok also performed a dual role, serving as cadet master as well. Similarly, the Doctor served as both chief medical officer and exobiology professor. In 3195 - when Commander Thok (b. 3145) was 50 years old according to her personnel file - Ake and her ward, Cadet Caleb Mir, travelled to the Athena from Toroth to the Athena at TRAPPIST 1e. Along with the crew and cadets, the Athena left orbit to travel to Earth. In the Badlands, the Athena was attacked with programmable matter by Braka's ship, a vessel of the Venari Ral cartel. Following the arrival in the Sol star system, the Athena separated its hull from its warp nacelles and landed on the campus of the former Starfleet Academy site in San Francisco. (SA episode: "Kids These Days")

The Athena was integrated with the surface facilities. Starfleet Academy was revived following its replacement by Starfleet's War College after the Burn in the 31st century. Fleet Admiral Charles Vance represented the Federation during negotiations with a delegation from Betazed that took place at the academy. Chancellor Ake's proposal to rebuild the Federation capital on Betazed convinced the Betazoids to become Federation members again. (SA episode: "Beta Test")

As part of Starfleet Academy, the Athena was located adjacent to the War College facility on Earth. (SA episode: "Vitus Reflux")

On stardate 868943.8, the Athena visited the Val Nebula. Following a saucer separation, the ship's primary hull took part in the Battle of Faan Alpha against the united Klingon Houses. The battle ended with a Klingon victory and Faan Alpha being adopted as the new homeworld of the Klingon diaspora. (SA episode: "Vox In Excelso")

During the spring semester in 3196, the majority of personnel and cadets left on All Worlds Day for a holiday period. (SA episode: "Ko'Zeine")
