The USS Engle (alternatively registered NCC-1003^[4] or NCC-1040^[5]) was a 23rd century Federation starship, the Engle-class strike wing escort prototype in Starfleet service from the 2220s^[3] to the 2410s^[4] decades. (STO - Klingon War mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")

Service history[]

This ship and its class were named after the Human Joe Engle. At one point, when the Engle was in orbit of a planet alongside the USS Walker and while the ship carried the registry number NCC-1040, Joe Engle's name was painted on the hull. (SOTL calendar: 2023 September image: "Class Act")

Construction began in the year 2208 as an experimental spaceframe. The Engle and other ships of its class took names from different traditions, including aviation pioneers and wet navy cruisers. Thanks to the advent of newer warp coils, construction finished in 2224. Its sister ships were constructed at the Tranquility Fleet Yards at Luna, the Yoyodyne Propulsion Systems at Proxima and the Van Maanen Slips at Van Maanen's Star. When Starfleet salvaged the ISS Engle and refitted the mirror escort carrier to tier 6 standards in 2410, the Lobi Crystal Consortium began offering other mirror escort carriers to Starfleet captains. From 2410 onward, the Engle represented its class on the shipyards interfaces operated by New Romulus Shipyards, Klingon Defense Force Order of Builders, Dominion Vanguard Fleet and Starfleet Shipyards Operations at Khitomer Alliance facilities across the Milky Way Galaxy. Khitomer Alliance flag officers deployed the Engle for missions around the galaxy's four quadrants as part of the four-quadrant strategy. (STO - New Dawn mission: "Admiralty System")
