For tonight's Alphabet Chat, Mr. Chatterly waxes about the letter R. Upon mentioning the word "radiator," a pair of janitors bring one on set and crush his foot with it. As he segues into foods that start with R, a man with a food cart wheels into frame. A cow also appears, hoping to finagle her way into the show by claiming to be a rooster and rabbit. The program gets cut short when Guy Smiley rushes in to do a live commercial for "Bow Wow Chow," with the cow returning as the dog.

• Two different takes of the segment were used on the show. An alternate take was used in airings from Season 12 and on.

• Some additional chaos was scripted, but not used in the final sketch. In the script, the chyron R initially appears over Mr. Chatterly's face before shifting to a different part of the screen. The first word he mentions is "rain," causing a brief rainfall in the studio. The janitors also coerce him to sign for the radiator delivery before taking it away. Guy Smiley is not present in the script, with an unnamed Muppet announcer instead delivering the "Bow Wow Chow" copy while also advertising the episode of "As the Worm Turns" coming up next.^[1]
