SCENE 2Susan and Gordon encounter Oscar, planning a Grouch picnic on a day when it looks like it's about to rain. As Gordon reads the list, Oscar and Susan set the nearby crate being used as a table with the appropriate items: a dingy tablecloth, dirty plates, old cups recycled from tuna cans, a grill for mudburgers, and a pickle fork. The clouds part and the sun comes out, ruining Oscar's plans, but Oscar doesn't mind as he hates picnics anyway.
