Picture Segment Description

SCENE 1 In the first light of the morning, David groggily makes his way to Hooper's Store. He tells the viewer his grandmother, Grace, is visiting and they spent half the night talking. He smells something delicious cooking inside the store and suspects Mr. Hooper is making breakfast, but Mr. Hooper is also outside with David. They find Grace inside making breakfast, having gotten the key from David earlier when he was half-asleep. They don't think the two of them can eat all the food she's prepared, but as Grace correctly assumes, the smell attracts others (namely Maria) to the store to eat.

Cartoon The Sesame Street Vaudeville Theater presents "Near and Far," two performers, one of which is always near and the other is far. When the two switch places so "Far" can be more recognized, the act becomes "Wet and Dry" and "Far" gets doused with water.

SCENE 2 David and Maria protest Grace going to visit Oscar's trash can, assuming she'll stumble around in the darkness and get all dirty, or fall for one of Oscar's tricks. A neatly-dressed Oscar tries giving her a tour anyway while Maria and David hear all manner of sounds coming from within, from splashing in the pool to falling in mud puddles. Grace emerges from the can just as clean as she entered; the sounds were all Oscar, who ended up getting completely filthy from head to toe stumbling into the various messes he set up for her. He doesn't mind, though - he thinks he's never looked better and goes back for another trip through the darkness.

SCENE 4 Grace stops by Big Bird's nest, where Big Bird is moping. Her presence makes him think of his own Granny Bird and how much he misses her. Grace admits she feels sad sometimes too, as David is so grown up now, she misses being able to read to him and take care of him. The two find they both fill the void missing in each other's lives, and Grace climbs into his nest to read him a story.
