SCENE 1 | Maria walks down the street and stops in her tracks when she notices Oscar's trash can, which has been beautified with flowers, a clean picket fence, and a welcome mat. A piano version of the Sesame Street Theme plays from inside. She rings the doorbell and Oscar appears, neatly-dressed and talking politely. He explains that he's expecting a visit from his brother Ernest, whom he holds a grudge against for being the favorite kid in their family. Oscar plans to get even with Ernest by acting nice and making him comfortable (even though he can't stand it either). |
