This article is about the stage from Kirby's Dream Buffet. For the consumable item that restores health in some other Kirby games, see Food.

Pancakes is one of the eight Race stages in Kirby's Dream Buffet. It is available at the start, and has the Kirbys racing on large trackways consisting of pancakes and waffles while climbing up walls of syrup and rolling along wafer slides.

Overview[edit]

This stage features a long series of wide straightaway tracks made mainly of waffles while the eponymous pancakes serve as rotating walls and tall stacks that can be climbed by means of the sticky syrup-falls on the front. In-between these straightaways are long curved wafer slides lined with strawberries. In addition to being made of pancakes and waffles, the stage also features whipped cream, cookies, hard candies, chocolate drizzle, wafer rolls, butter pads, chocolate squares, and cutlery. The chocolate drizzle and butter in particular can slow down any Kirbys that roll into them.

Variants of this stage differ in the particulars, but they all follow the same basic structure and have the following sections in the following order:

  • A straightaway at the start that leads to the first syrup wall.
  • A second straightaway featuring pancake walls with sections cut out that rotate, leading to the second syrup wall.
  • A connective walkway of some kind that leads to a Crumbling Cookie Wall, with the third syrup wall behind it.
  • A more precarious passage of waffles and spinning pancakes leading to the fourth syrup wall.
  • A diagonal passage leading to an open area with a spiral ramp going upward to a cannon that can be used to skip the last syrup wall leading to the end of the stage.

Variant details[edit]

The following are noteworthy details for each variant of this stage that cause them to differ from one-another. Note that each variant is named after the color of the background:

Red variant

Fittingly, this version features largely red and pink waffles and cookies as architecture, along with red and pink candies and frosting.
  • The first area is a relatively short straightaway with cookies on the floor covered in white frosting.
  • The area after the second syrup wall climb features a diagonally-right passage made of pancakes with spinning wafer rolls on top leading up to the crumbling cookie wall.
  • The area after the third syrup wall features a single main bridge with rotating pancakes walls, and two narrower bridges on the wings.
  • The final area bends diagonally to the left before straightening out, and leads past a spinning pancake platform covered in Gordos.

Yellow variant

This variant is built largely using orange and green waffles, and also features kiwi slices as decoration.
  • The first area is a relatively short straightaway with stacks of pancakes and kiwi slices on the floor.
  • The area after the second syrup wall climb features a long narrow wafer slide stretching toward the left with lots of strawberries along it leading up to the crumbling cookie wall.
  • The area after the third syrup wall features a single main bridge with rotating pancakes walls, and isolated kiwi platforms forming the paths on the wings.
  • The final area bends diagonally to the right using another wafer bridge before straightening out, and leads past a spinning pancake platform with no real hazards on it save for the butter pad in the middle.

Green variant

This variant has a chocolate-like theme, featuring orange and brown waffles as well as chocolate decorations.
  • The first area is a relatively short straightaway with cookies on the floor covered in white frosting.
  • The area after the second syrup wall climb features a diagonally-left passage made of pancakes with spinning wafer rolls on top leading up to the crumbling cookie wall.
  • The area after the third syrup wall features a single main bridge with rotating pancakes walls, and two narrower bridges on the wings.
  • The final area bends diagonally to the right before straightening out, and leads past a spinning pancake platform with a Gordo in the center.

Blue variant

This variant uses primarily red tones for its waffles, but also has some chocolate themes as well, effectively being a blend of the green and red visual themes.
  • The first area is a relatively short straightaway with stacks of pancakes on the floor.
