1741-9 was the designation number for a Type-7 shuttlecraft which had been stolen or otherwise appropriated from the United Federation of Planets and later came into the ownership of the Shadow Group, a splinter faction which fielded it to attack targets inside the Cardassian Union.

Service history and disposition[]

Built from starship designs used for the construction of the different brands of shuttlecraft fielded throughout territories inside the jurisdiction of the United Federation of Planets for civilian purposes and usage inside Starfleet, 1741-9 was one of the various spacecrafts which somehow came into the possession of external parties across the course of the Maquis insurrection. Though a significant number of its counterparts were appropriate for service to the rebellion, this shuttle found herself in the hands of the Shadow Group, an extreme splinter faction created from a dual alliance between members of the defunct Obsidian Order and Bajoran holdouts from the Circle. Wishing to ignite a renewed war between Cardassia Prime and the worlds inside the Federation, when the Group launched a campaign of terror to fulfill this agenda, its members utilised shuttles like 1741-9 to further cement their false nature as a radical branch of the Maquis. While their leaders remained hidden on Bajor, carrying a scheme to draw the renegade Skrain Dukat into their clutches, Cardassian members of the Group crewed 1741-9 and took it into the outlying reaches of the Cardassian Union, where it engaged in a hostile encounter with two Galor-class battlecruisers, fighting besides another shuttle and six other vessels. As their engagement flourished to become an all-out battle, the USS Defiant arrived at the scene and took on fire from one of the participating fighters before activating its cloaking device. Theorising that the attacking crafts could have been stolen from the Maquis, the crew of the Defiant proceeded to launch a surprise attack, locking its phasers onto the engines of 1741-9 and her fellows, thereby leaving them floating helpless in space. In response to a transmission from Captain Benjamin Sisko ordering the individuals onboard the immobilised starships to stand down and desist from further aggressions, the members of the Shadow Group set their vessels to self-destruct, but the Defiant and her counterparts from the Cardassian Guard were able beam all the crew members off the doomed vessels before energy buildups caused them to detonate, leaving the Cardassian renegades who were once at their helms to face exposure and detainment.
