This Borg probe class was first encountered by Starfleet in the year 2375. (VOY episode: "Dark Frontier")
History and technical specifications[]
The probe ship was smaller than most Borg vessels. Its shape was an elongated icositetrahedron, or 24-sided box. Ships of the class were approximately 350 meters long, 120 wide and stood 100 meters tall. It was equipped with automated regeneration units and robotic probes. Ships of this class fired green directed energy weapons and were equipped with deflector shields. (VOY episode: "Dark Frontier")
24th century[]
On stardate 52619.2, a Borg probe of this type was encountered by the Federation starship USS Voyager in the Delta Quadrant. Its weaponry was a match for the Intrepid-class starship. Voyager destroyed the Borg probe with a well-placed photon torpedo beamed inside, and then scavenged the wreckage. (VOY episode: "Dark Frontier")
During the Borg Invasion of 2376, ships of this class were deployed as Borg interceptors while another class served as Borg scouts. (ST video game: Armada)
In 2377, a different class fulfilled the role of Borg interceptor. (ST video game: Armada II)
25th century[]
In an alternate reality where the Section 31 artificial intelligence Control merged with the Borg, Control probes were deployed by the Control Borg in their war with the Iconian Alliance of that universe. Like the other Borg ships of this timeline, Control assimilators were blue-tinted like primary universe Cooperative vessels but also surrounded by a diffuse nanite cloud.
