The Ninth Order was a 24th century Cardassian Union military unit, an order in the Cardassian Guard under the aegis of the Cardassian Central Command. (DS9 episode: "Ties of Blood and Water")
History and specifics[]
Legate Corat Damar announcing the Ninth Order's actions.
During the Occupation of Bajor, the Third Assault Group of the Ninth Order, a heavy weapons unit, maintained a base near Tempasa on Bajor. At some point after 2356[1], when Kira Nerys had become an active participant in missions of the Bajoran Resistance, and the end of the occupation in 2369[2], Kira led a raid on the Third Assault Group's base. In retaliation, the Cardassian destroyed her father's, Kira Taban's, village. (DS9 episode: "Ties of Blood and Water")
In 2375, during the Dominion War, detachments of the First, Third and Ninth Orders destroyed a Dominion cloning facility on Rondac III under Legate Corat Damar's Cardassian Liberation Front. This marked the beginning of the Cardassian rebellion against their Dominion overlords. Legate Damar broadcast the information about the orders' action publically. (DS9 episode: "The Changing Face of Evil")
In 2378, Barada Damar, First Speaker of the Cardassian Reclamation, replayed Legate Damar's speech to visitors from the USS Theseus on Cardassia Prime, including his uncle's reference to the Ninth Order. (ST - IDW - The Red Path comic: "Part 4")
Mirror universe[]
In the First Splinter[3] timeline permutation of the mirror universe, the Ninth Order was part of the Cardassian military in the 2370s. Following Bajor's secession from the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance in 2377, Supreme Legate Skrain Dukat, leader of the Cardassian Union, ordered Gul Corat Damar to ready the Ninth Order for an occupation of Bajor. Damar advised that refueling and resupplying the Ninth Order would take ten days and could not be accelerated.
The Ninth Order departed from Olmerak on a direct course for Bajor and the Terran Rebellion-controlled Terok Nor space station. Their course avoided an ion storm and forced civilian ships, like a Xepolite freighter, to reroute. The Xepolite freighter captain alerted the Rebels, who estimated the arrival of the 9th Order at 61 hours. It also forced the Rebellion to abandon a planned assault on Olmerak. Keiko Ishikawa, Terok Nor's first officer and embedded operative of Memory Omega, reported to MO Director Saavik that the Cardassians had sent the entire Ninth Order, a force the Rebellion could not defeat. However, the Rebellion decided to stand their ground and defend Bajor from the Cardassians. During the battle, Gul Domal of the Azanja became the de facto commander of the Order due to attrition after the destruction of Terok Nor, though only four warships and several support ships remained. When the Rebels fled, Domal returned to his quarters to await reinforcements from the Seventh Order to being the conquest of Bajor. The conquest of Bajor was foiled when Vulcan agents working as slaves and servants used their psionic powers to turn the Cardassians on one another during the Red Hour. The remaining ships of the Ninth Order steered into one another and were destroyed in the collisions. (ST - Mirror Universe novel: Rise Like Lions)
