Sessica

A sessica was a musical instrument in Triexian culture, similar to a flute with a curved mouthpiece and multiple mouths.

History and specifics[]

It produced oboe-like deep music, though with more range in upper registers. Individual sessicas were played only on certain days, special occasions, or for particular songs. Lieutenant Arex Na Eth was an accomplished sessica player and possessed several of the instruments. In 2270, he performed "The Farmer and the Road" and "The Song of the Orchard-Master and the Twelve Polor Trees" with a sessica for off-duty personnel in the recreation room of the USS Enterprise. (TAS - Log Four novelization: The Terratin Incident)

The sessica was traditionally used to perform the Song of Heritage, as part of the Contemplation in honor of the dying. (NF - No Limits short story: "The Road to Edos")
